Hey, kids, if you want to get parents, grandparents, or aunts and uncles on Facebook, now’s a better time than ever. FB now has a privacy primer for people who are signing up for the first time.
“We’ve implemented these enhancements as part of our broader effort to integrate more privacy education into the new user experience,” it says in Facebook’s blog, acknowledging the “guidance on this effort” from the Irish Data Protection Commissioner’s Office, which is the regulatory oversight agency for Facebook’s services outside of North America. Facebook underwent a months-log privacy audit by that office, passing it successfully last December (see this about that).
So new users will now learn about the following at signup: default privacy settings, selecting an audience for information shared on their profiles, accessing their data, use of apps and games, how advertising works on Facebook, tagging people and things, and finding friends.
