About Our RSS Feed
"RSS" often stands for "really simple syndication," but this FAQ says there are other definitions and this source says there's no real consensus so "RSS" is a name not an acronym. Don't ya love it?
Anyway, we're providing an RSS feed because spam filters - though great in some ways - are keeping a lot of subscribers from getting the newsletters they subscribe to and keeping our distribution from growing. News providers need all the distribution means they can get! [The email version can be subscribed to here.]
You can subscribe to our RSS feed by...
- Downloading a news reader (see below), then telling it to subscribe to http://netfamilynews.org/newsletter.xml (this is our feed URL, which you just copy and paste into most news readers).
- Using a browser - e.g., Firefox or Safari for Macs - that automatically picks up RSS feeds for you. In Safari, just click on the blue RSS button right next to the Google search box at the top (the button appears whenever a site has a feed). Firefox has an RSS feature called "Live Bookmarks" - you click on a little orange and white icon in the bottom right-hand corner when a site has RSS. The button prompts you subscribe to the feed, which will then be in your Live Bookmarks folder (you may have to create the folder in "Manage Bookmarks" - then, ideally, put it in you Bookmarks Toolbar for easy access).
Some examples of news readers are below (some free, some not), and Wired News and the New York Times have reviews of a half-dozen or so (here, too, is a primer on RSS for teachers, "The ABCs of RSS" at TechLearning.com). Once you've got a Reader, click on the "Subscribe" button. It will take you to a page where you can add our RSS URL (in bold above) with one more click. Each reader has a slightly different process, but the URL is what most are looking for. Or look to the Help files the reader offers.
